$150 of $1500 raised
I was going to wait until the day before my birthday to start this, but I feel like there's no better time than now. As most of you know, The Philadelphia School District closed down 23 schools in 2013. I am a strong believer in "children are our future, so for my birthday I would like all of my friends and family to donate, even if only a dollar.
I will be dividng 100% of the proceeds evenly between the two elementary schools I attended: Samuel W. Pennypacker, located on Washington Lane, in West Oak Lane, and Fitler Academics Plus, located on Seymour & Knox street in Germantown; and Treehouse Books, a nonprofit in North Philadelphia. "Housed inside a literary cafe, the mission of Tree House Books is to grow and sustain a community of readers, writers, and thinkers in North Central Philadelphia. We service our mission through the Life With Books Literacy Initiative in which we work with neighborhood youths age 6 to 12 and empower them to build their literacy skills by engaging them in thorough and consistent reading, and by assisting them in applying these skills to all aspects of their intellectual, emotional, and cultural development."
I will decide based on how much is raised what I will propose the schools and organization do with the money. I am also opened to suggestions and ideas.
Thanks in advance everyone!
** IT SAYS 100% KEEP BECAUSE THEY DID NOT GIVE ME THE OPTION TO CHOOSE THE THREE PLACES I WILL BE DONATING TO. 100% OF PROCEEDS WILL GO TO FITLER A.P., SAMUEL W. PENNYPACKER, & TREEHOUSE BOOKS.
