Today is my birthday, and I am grateful to God for another year.
I am turning 28 years old! I am a college graduate of UNT, a member of the US Army, and most of all, a proud co-founder of NachoBirthday. I believe there is no better way to celebrate this year than via my own very platform, as I donate this day to someone very dear to me, Jessica McClure.
While studying at UNT, I met Lanett McClure who at the time worked in UNT's multicultural department. She introduced me to her daughter, Jessica, who at the time needed tutoring. As a broke college student I could use the money. Little did I know that meeting this 16 year old girl was going to teach me things worth more than money and literally change my life forever. On one hand I was teaching her biology and chemistry, and on the other, learning true resiliency, strength in weakness, and faith to always push forward, while living life with gratefulness.
You see, Jessica was born with cerebral palsy and dystonia, a neurological disorder in which sustained muscle contractions causes twisting and repetitive movements or abnormal postures. As at the time we met, she had undergone 2 brain surgeries with leads in her brain to help minimize her symptoms. She is currently awaiting a third surgery, since one of the lead in her brain stopped working properly, now giving room for multiple dystonic storms. But through all this she holds strong, and likes to tell me of her dreams to help people in the future. This is why I would like to see her being helped in the present.
My goal for starting this NachoBirthday campaign is to help her get a service dog. Although she is awaiting surgery; but with or without the surgery, she is in need of a service dog. She actually plans on going to college for public health and a service dog will go a long way. It will cost nothing less than $20,000 to acquire one, and this where you guys come in. I need your help to make a difference this year. To my family, friends, and people with good hearts out there, I am reaching out to you to give your support in acquiring this dog.
We would send out lots of hugs, shout outs, add credits with the name of donors to the end of this video as you donate. Jessica agreed to name her dog after whoever gives her the most donation (of course only if it’s fine by you).
Please, as you donate to this campaign, also share it with your friends and loved ones. The more people share and donate, the quicker we can make a difference in the life of this wonderful girl!
